Critical Care offers an entirely different set of challenges. It requires a nurse to be aware of basically everything about a patient! And Noemi Dela Fuente is! Noemi's core values are absolutely, without a doubt, excellence in Nursing, integrity, and caring and compassion. Noemi manages some of our sickest and most vulnerable patients with skill and ease, and she never appears bored, tired, or burnt out!
Noemi is extremely conscientious, never stopping until her patients have everything they need. This is no easy task on a unit with minimal resources at night, but she does it flawlessly. She is on top of her game, anticipating patient progress or decline and proactively responding and/or communicating to the physician.
Working alongside Noemi is a pleasure because you know you have a partner who supports and helps you. As though it weren't enough to just be a great nurse, Noemi has demonstrated her commitment to the unit and our patients by helping out significantly during recent staffing shortages. Like Florence Nightingale, the lady with the lamp – Noemi has never left a patient without a highly-skilled, very compassionate nurse to care for them in the night.
Because of all this, I have often asked Noemi to precept our new hires because I want them to model their practice after hers. She is a shining example of a great ICU nurse, and we are very grateful to have her on the SVH team!
