My husband was in Mississippi by himself. Before I got down there to stay with him for a week, he kept telling me about his Nurse Denise, and how I needed to meet her. As soon as I did, I was so very thankful for her. She took such great care of him and did her best to keep his spirits up, as he was here alone and being diagnosed with cancer. He has also never been hospitalized in his life.

Not only did she go above and beyond to support him, but she put up with his sassy attitude and smart mouth. She never missed a beat, which is one thing he loved about her. What really stuck out to me was when he was getting moved to the oncology floor. She gave him the best pep talk on the way down. She told him, "It's OK to have pity days and times, but then say, OK, I've got this and keep fighting." She also told his new Nurses to take care of her baby.

Not being able to be there with him all of the time has been hard for me, but seeing the care he was given makes it a tiny bit easier for me to be able to go back home.
