Nicole Lanier is a wonderful manager and person. She has really improved the culture and work environment in both PICU & CVICU through hard work, leadership, and compassionate caring for her team members, their patients, and families. She is a true servant leader and role model with a hands-on approach that enhances teamwork and mutual respect. She is loved and respected by her teams and colleagues, and it shows. Her team members have had the most DAISY Awards and have won the DAISY team award as well. She is the embodiment of the DAISY Nurse Leader.

Nicole is definitely a hands-on nurse manager. I have worked at Wolfson's for 18 years and by far, she is the most hands-on manager I have worked with when it comes to patient care. She is always ready and willing to jump into any emergent situation. She will run for blood, do compressions, take out the trash, get equipment, or whatever is needed in that time. She is available to staff 24 hours a day and is willing to come in and help when things are super busy. When you have a manager that is so willing to jump right in and help her staff no matter what, the staff has so much respect for her. She is compassionate when need be. She has earned the respect that she has with her staff. She encourages staff to be the best version of themselves. She listens to suggestions, and concerns and puts them into motion. She will work to get whatever is needed for our patients and to make the units run smoothly. She has an open-door policy and is available whenever staff needs to talk to her. She often meets individually with staff to grow a closer relationship with them and to find out what needs they have at work. I could continue to go on about Nicole, but as a manager, I stand in awe every time she jumps in to help and has so much knowledge in what she is doing. She is more than just a manager she is a reliable resource to staff and others. Thanks for all you do, Nicole.

Nicole has been a wonderful leader for the CVICU. Not only does she create a safe work culture, but she also advocates well for her team members. She has made the unit feel like a family, not a workplace. She takes the time to personally get to know her employees and check in on them often. From day one she has made sure that we know that she has an open-door policy, whatever we need, she is there for us. This unit has become a very efficient team under Nicole's leadership, and we are so thankful to have her.

Nicole exceeds the meaning of a leader in so many ways. She is so attentive to all staff members, ensuring everyone feels important and cared for. Nicole goes beyond for each patient and family member she encounters, consistently providing compassionate care and always going out of her way to involve and educate family members to make sure their voice is heard. There have been so many unforeseen changes this year, combining units, evolving protocols, etc. but Nicole has made the transitions as smooth as possible. Overall, Nicole's love for her unit and leadership role is something we all learn from and are continually growing with, and is something I am grateful to be a part of every day.

Nicole is an incredible Nurse manager for not only the Peds CVICU but also the PICU. The amount that she has to handle being in that role for two units but still making the time to intentionally be there and support her staff individually is what really separates her as a leader. She truly has a servant leader's heart and it shows. If we are swamped and having a rough shift you can bet that Nicole will be there helping in any way she can. She's the only manager I have ever had to actually help at the beside. She also does a great job of making you feel heard and validated. When we have concerns, she listens, she cares. There isn't a doubt in my mind that she does everything in her power to fix bad situations and has the back of every one of her team members. I have a hard time believing there is a better nurse manager in the Baptist Health system.

Nicole is one of the best managers that I have ever worked with. Nicole has been able to motivate both the PICU and CVICU teams to remain positive during times of change, a leadership skill that not everyone possesses. This past year has been challenging for many leaders because of the COVID pandemic, but she has done a fabulous job maintaining clear communication and expectations with her staff during this time. Nicole goes above and beyond every day that she shows up to work. Truthfully, she is hard to keep up with at times, but this only motivates her teams to perform at their highest capability. When she says she is the "mama bear" of the PICU and CVICU, she means it. She loses sleep over the hard decisions that she makes, but she is always doing it with the best intentions for the staff and patients that we care for. She advocates for superior patient care, and she does not allow for anything less. If there is an area to improve upon, well, that means we had better get to work! Nicole works hard at forming trusting, respectful, and collaborative relationships with all the people that she works with. She is a confidant to many, and the staff knows that her door is always open. Because she has worked so hard at forming trusting relationships, the culture has become one of positivity and collaboration. As methodical and driven as Nicole is, she remains compassionate and empathetic with staff, patients, and families. There are many times that Nicole has sacrificed her personal time to meet the needs of her staff. She is called at all hours of the night about patient or staffing concerns, but she still manages to come to work with a smile and a positive attitude. When she comes to work, you may find her in MRI with a patient, in the ECMO room changing linen, or in another patient's room starting an IV. There is not a job that Nicole won't do to help her team out. She often comes in on the weekends when the staff needs her. She has provided staff food on the weekends when census and acuity are high. Not only this, but she is very aware of the staff's emotional needs when the unit has had a death. She is sensitive to the nurses and their emotions during this time. She is genuinely concerned about the nurses, and she is constantly checking in on her staff to make sure that they are doing okay. She is in her manager role because she has a passion for leading others to achieve the impossible.

Nicole is the most wonderful leader I have ever experienced. She manages two units and countless employees but is able to make you and your needs feel like her most important priority. She makes time for regular one-on-one meetings to talk about goals, concerns, and outside life. If you need to go on a road trip with your patient? She's there. Need clinical advice? She's there. Need to cry and take a break? She's there. Having a sweet soul as well as a nurse that can help with anything is the best blessing PICU and CVICU could have for a manager. Thank you so much, Nicole!
