I will never be able to thank CJ enough.
CJ Heyden is a phenomenal nurse and I know this first hand not only because she took the absolute best care of my husband but also because I work with her and witness the extraordinary care she delivers on a daily basis. CJ is the very embodiment of what nurses do and how they impact so many lives.
CJ took care of my husband who was exceptionally sick. My husband has a history of endocarditis and it nearly took his life about five years ago. So when my husband called me while I was at work telling me he was having the same symptoms, I felt my heart drop to my feet. Needless to say, I told him to come to the ER at WakeMed main campus because even though he did not receive care here the last time, I knew without a doubt the wonderful staff in the Emergency Department would take great care of him. I notified that my husband was on the way and expressed my concerns and fears. CJ was in the triage booth. It was a crazy-busy night and I thought my hubby might have to wait a long time but when CJ realized how sick my husband was after assessing him and taking his vitals he was taken back to a stretcher immediately.
When CJ stepped out of his room to tell me how concerned she was about my husband she didn't make me feel like the world was falling apart. On the contrary, even though what she said was scary and that she needed to grab a physician immediately, the way she spoke to me with all the care, compassion, and sincerity a person can exude, I stopped worrying and I felt a pressure lift from my chest. You see, I have the honor, almost on a daily basis, of witnessing what these amazing nurses and providers can do but when it's your family somehow what you feel overrides what you know. Seeing CJ take action to make sure my husband got the best care and promptly all while making sure I was okay and that I understood what was going on, I will never be able to thank her enough.
CJ provided amazing care to my husband and I see her treat every single patient she cares for the very same way. CJ does not pick and choose or discriminate and she does not ever compromise the care she provides. Thank you!

CJ was an excellent triage nurse who went above and beyond the call of duty. She was compassionate while I was in excruciating pain and scared because of my immune system. She made sure I was in a safe place.
