I wish to start by saying Christine Thurau has never officially been our nurse, only our charge nurse, but her extraordinary care of our whole family makes her the best. There are good nurses and there are great nurses and then there is Christine.
We came to TCU from the PICU about four months ago, and Christine immediately stood out to us. She spoke to our child as if she already loved her. What really impressed me is that I had spoken to several nurses, great nurses, about the possibility of our baby's sister visiting on Christmas and it felt like it was a hopeless request. Christine found out what I had asked for one day and by the end of the day, her big sister was approved for a visit.
Fast forward another month and a half, I was broken. I was at my lowest. Torn away from my other daughter while watching my baby grow up in a hospital. I didn't even ask for help, I was just broken. Christine, my angel, found out, and that day my other daughter was approved to be a weekend visitor. I could see both of my children at the same time, and I got to see my eldest more often.
Christine has truly saved me, and I truly believe God sent her here to be an angel. I think about the difference she has made, and I have no idea how I'd get through this without her. She hasn't been specifically assigned to my baby once! Combine all of this with her checking up on us, getting me coffee, loving my children, making lists of ideas for "big sis", and overall being sunshine in this darkness. The world needs more Christines.
