Leeanne spent over an hour with this patient discussing the risks
I have seen Leeanne Bracco go above and beyond for all of her patients. Multiple times during the past two years of working with Leeanne, I have seen her advocate for our patients with various providers. This may be her calling the consulting physicians to clarify orders or it could be discussing our strict drug and alcohol Pennsylvania confidentiality laws with the patient's family members when the patients decline to have them involved in their care.
One situation comes to mind when I saw Leeanne discussing aftercare options with a patient contemplating leaving the hospital against medical advice. This particular person had several health conditions mixed with alcohol withdrawal that could put him at serious risk should he had left our unit. The patient was feeling unwell and voiced he felt like he was starting to crave alcohol to assist with his withdrawal. Leeanne spent over an hour with this patient discussing the risks with him, finding out why he wanted to leave, and formulating an alternative plan with him to keep him in the hospital instead of leaving. Ultimately, the patient stayed on the unit and was provided with nicotine lozenges, a newspaper, and a radio. Several days later, the patient ended up transferring to inpatient rehab.
