Sanford Medical Center - Fargo
The patient asked Chere to go to her house and feed her cat. Chere did so without a second thought.
Chere Rikimoto illustrates what an extraordinary nurse should be by going above and beyond for the patients of Sanford Wheaton. Here are two examples.
The first example regards a patient admitted for multiple issues who ended up being on life support. There was no contact information for anyone in the chart and they were not successfully connecting with the patient’s husband due to some developmental issues. Sanford Fargo reached out to the Wheaton clinic after the public health RN advised them to call and see if they were aware of any other family members. Chere Rikimoto's assistance with reaching out to the patient's husband, having him come to the clinic, and making sure he was able to understand the information provided by the medical team, was instrumental in the communication processes. Chere went above and beyond her duties and exemplifies the best of small-town living, where neighbors look out for others and help where they can.
Chere’s patience and concern were very apparent both for the patient and her husband. In addition to helping with the communication, the husband is a patient on Chere's Care Management program and she is very familiar with him. The patient herself requested that Chere come to her hospital room before her transfer to discuss her concerns for her husband, as she knew the kind of person that Chere is.
Chere went to their home and helped the husband with his medications for several days including on the weekends. A home health referral was placed, but he was denied. Chere and the local public health worked hours to find additional family for the husband to go stay with in the interim. This is above and beyond our scope and shows what an exemplary nurse and human that Chere is.
Secondly, another patient that Chere is familiar with was being transferred, the patient asked that Chere come to see her before her transfer and asked Chere to go to her house and feed her cat. Chere did so without a second thought.
