if it wasn't for Shaunagh my Mum wouldn't be with us
My mum was admitted to Glenfield Hospital with severe pneumonia. It is impossible to get my Mum into hospital so for her to go to hospital and be admitted meant she was really very poorly. I am a nurse myself and work as a Resuscitation Officer in my local trust, I found it so frustrating that I was unable to come and visit my Mum and care for her due to visiting restrictions because of Covid-19 but fully understood this. Communication is obviously key in these situations and myself and my family were so worried that we would have no idea what was going on with Mum. My step-dad set up a password and this meant we could speak to the nursing staff to find out where things were at with my Mum. Mum was so sick she was unable to message or call us, so I rang the ward to speak to the nurse looking after her with a million and one questions ready in my head, I was met on the other end of the phone with an angel; Shaunagh Newby.
Words cannot describe how amazing Shaunagh is, I instantly felt relaxed and knew that Mum was in good hands as Shaunagh spoke to me and was calm and competent, she answered every single question without complaint and evidently knew everything about my Mum's condition and all about her care. As the days went on, I spoke to Shaunagh a lot, and hearing her voice at the end of the phone was reassuring. She was open and honest and let us know everything that was happening, further to this Shaunagh rang us as well as us ringing up, she also stayed hours after her shift to care for Mum when she was critically unwell and nearly didn't make it and this shows how devoted she is to her role and her patients. Now Mum is improving and we are able to talk to her on the phone, she has also spoken about how amazing Shaunagh was with her. I wish I could have met Shaunagh and if I ever do, I would love to give her the biggest hug as I honestly believe that if it wasn't for Shaunagh my Mum wouldn't be with us.
Thank you so much Shaunagh.
