We have many leaders in our organization who inspire us to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more. Rowena Guarino can be seen every day when she rounds with her cart full of supplies, her phone, and her ceramic pig that is filled with wrapped candy. Rowena greets the staff with a big smile and the words "Do you want a treat?" Often, she bakes beautifully packaged cookies for the staff. Rowena always has a kind but firm approach to address the task at hand. She leads by example and actions. Rowena is passionate about her work.
Most recently, we had multiple gunshot victims come into the Emergency Department, Rowena texted me that she was at the hospital on her day off handing out cookies. Rowena told me that she would go assist the supervisor on duty. She often will adjust her schedule to go and cover where she is needed.
When I thank Rowena, she always responds "That's what we do, we are a team."
Rowena Guarino is recognized for all she does for our patients, families, and colleagues. She truly exemplifies the quality of a leader during this difficult time in healthcare. She is to be commended for her sincere enthusiasm, integrity, loyalty, decisiveness, and great communication skills.
