Jaden Light helped to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere in which the children felt comfortable and even were smiling by the end of their (somewhat long) stay which was a sharp contrast to the fear and anxiety that they had upon first entering our ED.
I wanted to let you know about a patient interaction I witnessed while on shift in the peds Emergency Department. We had a family of 2 children who presented for medical evaluation due to parental concern for NAT sustained while they were staying at another caregiver's home. The children (both <5 years old) were initially quite apprehensive and the toddler boy, in particular, was inconsolable when they first arrived.
Jaden was assigned to their care and did an amazing job in caring for not only their acute medical needs, but in comforting the children and watching over them to provide relief for the father when he needed to step out and make phone calls or discuss with social work or the medical team things that could not be discussed in front of the young children. Jaden Light facilitated an expedited workup, and this allowed us to get the boy's skeletal survey performed from the ED (despite the fact that it was already after 4 pm), preventing him from having to be admitted overnight to obtain this study.
Jaden fostered open communication between the physicians, social work, and family and helped the patients' father to better understand all the pieces of a complicated social workup involving multiple teams. Jaden Light helped to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere in which the children felt comfortable and even were smiling by the end of their (somewhat long) stay which was a sharp contrast to the fear and anxiety that they had upon first entering our ED. The patients' father commented several times to me how amazing Jaden Light is and how grateful he was to have her caring for his children during this difficult time. Jaden Light truly demonstrated what it means to provide compassionate, holistic care for our patients and families.
