Abagael rose to the occasion
A burned 8-year-old girl was beginning to heal but some staff members reported that she was not eating enough. The pediatric burn surgeon said the child could go home in the morning, but if she isn't eating adequately, she will have a feeding tube placed and stay over the weekend for feeds. We offered food and snacks and the girl was not interested.
In the middle of the night, the girl called feeling hungry and asking for chicken nuggets and French fries. We explained that the kitchen was closed and we had no mac ‘n cheese. We called the house supervisor who unlocked the kitchen area but was unable to find any snacks that the girl was interested in.
Abagael Boudreaux rose to the occasion to resolve this by going above and beyond the call of duty. She coordinated the delivery of chicken nuggets and French fries and paid with her own money. The child ate it all with other snacks we provided, and the physician was pleased with her intake and discharged her.
