Cindy manages to always have a smile on her face
Cindy Chung stands out above the rest. She has strong clinical skills often is serving as a great, thorough, preceptor explaining information in an easily understood way. Her kind and skillful teaching style and role modeling have been invaluable in helping new grads blossom to their full potential. Cindy's love for her patients and job is infectious and her inclusiveness and proactiveness inspire her colleagues to invoke the same behavior. She has really helped to develop 8NE as a team and provide excellent patient care.
Cindy's colleagues and patients love working with her because she dives right in, is great at follow-up, and nothing is beneath her. You know it's going to be a better shift for both patients and staff when she's in charge. A recent example of Cindy being an amazing charge nurse and her awareness of the unit was during one of her shifts, she got many vitals before being asked and continued to answer call lights throughout the day. Despite it being a busy day, Cindy jumped right in which made all the difference in providing prompt and safe patient care. No matter how busy, when talking with patients and their loved ones, Cindy is very present with the patient and family, not showing there's an outside world of call lights and competing demands. She exudes kindness no matter who she is speaking to, does not make the patient feel rushed, and really tries to understand what the ask and intent are so she knows how best to proceed. All the attention is on the patient and family so they know they are her number one priority. This, I think, is key to what makes her such a strong and successfully compassionate nurse.
Conversely, as a colleague, I have never heard Cindy complain about her patient load or about receiving a last-minute admit. She is a wonderful patient advocate who is not afraid to speak up and does so professionally and respectfully with her team across disciplines. I can't say enough how much Cindy is looked up to by her colleagues because of how proactive she is, her strong communication style, and her can-do attitude. Even when stressed, Cindy manages to always have a smile on her face. Her care and love on 8NE motivates us all to be the best humans and nurses we can be. Her enthusiasm and desire to care for patients genuinely and kindly is contagious. Nurses like Cindy are why we, at UWMC, can be so successful in a team approach to providing excellent patient care.
