Dani demonstrated exceptional nursing professionalism and quality of care in the setting of caring for an extremely difficult family dynamic. The OB provider staff made the labor and delivery nursing staff aware of a complex and unreasonable birth plan that had been provided by the patient and her significant other. The patient presented to labor and delivery in active labor and Dani was the assigned nurse to care for this family. While caring for the patient, the significant other seemed upset and was aggressive in his interactions with the staff. Dani maintained her composure and continued to provide excellent and compassionate care for the family. While there were many things going on in regard to this family, Dani remained at the bedside and maintained her composure in this extremely stressful situation. Ultimately, security had to be brought into the situation to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Many staff members would have had a much more difficult time handling this situation, but Dani’s level of experience ensured her ability to maintain her composure, provide an excellent birth experience for the mother, and documentation of events. Dani was scheduled for an eight-hour shift that night however the patient was close to delivery, and Dani volunteered to stay for the delivery to help maintain consistency with the patient and family. These actions are above and beyond and demonstrate her nursing quality of care, nurse image, and interdisciplinary relationships.

Dani is consistently involved with orienting new staff as well as training PNC students. She provides excellent support to staff when she is in charge. She is a true role model for the labor and delivery staff.
