But none of this would have been possible without Jamie and her willingness to step out of her comfort zone, to use the resources available, and to connect with this little girl and her family so that they feel confident in the care that their daughter is receiving.
About a year and a half ago Jamie Redmond volunteered to attend Pediatric training in Denver on the off chance that we would ever end up with an In-center pediatric patient. Fast-forward to this year. We got the call that a 22kg little girl would need to have dialysis in-center. Since we have never had such a small patient in-center before there were a lot of things that needed to be done in a very short amount of time. Jamie contacted the pediatrics experts and got all of the information that was needed. We reached out to our local Acutes team for supplies to get us started since all pediatric supplies are a formulary exception for us. Biomed got our equipment pediatric-ready.
Jamie was able to be present for this patient's first inpatient treatment so that she could feel comfortable with how the treatment would go. They say it takes a village to raise a child, in this case, Our Village all came together to ensure this little girl and her family could be given the best possible care. But none of this would have been possible without Jamie and her willingness to step out of her comfort zone, to use the resources available, and to connect with this little girl and her family so that they feel confident in the care that their daughter is receiving. One of the most amazing things about this story though, is that the entire time, Jamie was also still maintaining her Clinical Coordinator role, running her HHD program, training an HHD patient and picking up shifts in-center! There is a very good reason why we call her The Clinical Queen.
