Reed has been recognized by his therapy colleagues for keeping them informed, and for following up on concerns they bring forward, and for truly being an advocate for their patients.
Reed has been nominated by a number of nurses at UHS Home Care. Reed performs at a high level, but it is the rest of his story that makes him a good candidate for the DAISY Award.
Reed always does the little something extra at each home visit.
Compassion - Reed has been recognized by patients and his colleagues for taking the time to listen, and to meet patients where they are. This takes a little more time, but it enhances the patient relationship.
Trust - Reed has run into some complex medical situations that warranted interventions on his behalf to ensure the patient was safe. However, it was Reed staying late afterward to make sure that the caregiver was going to be okay and that was the extra care Reed provided. Reed respects that not all homes will be neat and clean and that folks have the right to make their own decisions regarding their health care even though this makes his job more challenging. Making every patient and their caregiver feel special is a routine part of the work he does.
Teamwork - Reed has been recognized by his therapy colleagues for keeping them informed, and for following up on concerns they bring forward, and for truly being an advocate for their patients. Reed regularly picks up extra on-call time and visits to be sure all patients get the care they need. In addition to the above, Reed has shoveled walks for clients. He also helped a caregiver who was locked out of the home get back in, when she was already stressed about her husband having to go to the hospital, knowing that she could not visit during the pandemic. She was very afraid, and Reed took the extra time to calm her.
Reed exemplifies exactly what makes the Home Care nurse different and special and does so by raising the caring and compassion bar by excelling at both the science and the art of Nursing.
