Marissa's commitment to patient care and safety drove her to take decisive action that benefitted her patients.
Last February, the Odessa clinic experienced multiple emergencies that put our patients in unique and difficult situations. Each time, Marissa's commitment to patient care and safety drove her to take decisive action that benefitted her patients. During Winter Storm Uri, the Odessa clinic lost power for nearly four days. During her scheduled days on, Marissa led the effort to find treatment options for all of Odessa's patients at other dialysis clinics, and even coordinated transportation for those patients when needed. On her two scheduled off days, Marissa actually volunteered to work at one of the other local clinics when other teammates could not make it to work because of the hazardous conditions, potentially putting herself at risk during the ice storm. One week after Uri, DaVita clinics in the Odessa area administered the first round of Covid-19 vaccines to our patients and teammates. During that time, a small fire at Marissa's clinic filled the treatment floor with smoke. The clinic had to be evacuated, and the patients who were scheduled to receive the vaccine during their treatment were not able to receive it. Marissa took it upon herself to coordinate vaccinations for all of the patients on the second and third shifts. She even went to another clinic to help administer vaccines herself. She told her FA, "I knew this might be the only chance for many of our patients to receive a vaccine, so once everyone was evacuated, I made it a priority to make sure they didn't miss their shot."
