As a dad of boys, injuries come frequently for us. The team at Wolfson South ER inside Baptist South Hospital is hands down the best we have experienced! From the moment we walked in the registration ladies were quick and pleasant. We were pulled back immediately and greeted by a tech and a child life specialist who explained every step of the way. Our nurses were the most comforting and patient ladies ever. They were gentle but firm, exactly what little boys need to follow directions, and thorough with their exams. Dr. G. was amazing and great with the kids. Overall, everyone made the experience as fun as it could be.

This brand-new team started at the grand opening of this new unit, not having known each other very long. The teamwork was phenomenal! Vivian and Jessica were leaders right from the start, even before earning the titles of Assistant Nurse Managers. From organizing schedules to ordering supplies and creating our Resus room. Their strong experience shined and helped make us a stronger team. Every staff member consistently helped each other as we found our new normal on a new unit. We made this unit a home together. Everyone’s strong dedication to the team and to our pediatric patients and their families was evident since day one. Just when we got our bearings, a pandemic started. Our team continued to support each other with flexibility in work schedules and thrived despite challenges. I am incredibly proud of this unit and this group of amazing people! They serve their community like they are family! They are all magnificent at what they do. They are a special group of people who are here for the children.

This team is the embodiment of team unity, leadership, and communication. At the start of this year, they all took a risk to be a part of something new, we opened the Wolfson South ER, and it was exciting. Shortly after opening, we were met with the COVID 19 Pandemic and there was so much left to the unknown. With minimal staff and still navigating the new waters of the ER, they have taken everything with grace and a hopeful spirit. Our RT Lydia has taken on the title of Child Life Specialist while we are without one and I have heard nothing but praise from both families and staff. She has the ability to calm and sooth a room in the most stressful of situations. I have seen teamwork like never before while navigating through new policies that still have a few kinks from incorporating Peds into the South Adult world. I could easily go on with moments that this team has proven to be exceptional. We had the first pediatric code stroke in March with amazing results for the patient because of the teamwork. There have been multiple comments of relief from parents that we were here and able to see their child. Overall I can honestly say that I am proud to be a part of this team. They deserve to be recognized for what they have accomplished and continue to do on a daily basis.

Last summer, one of our beloved CNAs had an emergent episode where we had to call a code green. The code green was able to be called a code stoke rapidly thanks to the quick attention of the pediatric staff. Our RT Joanna followed her into a room after she said she did not feel well and witnessed her quickly deteriorate. Joanna Smith, Amber Parson, April Clay, and Vivian Stewart all began treating her immediately. Recognizing her symptoms, the team had her on the monitor, glucose checked, IV line set up and EKG in the room as the adult code green staff from the ED arrived and began caring for her. She was treated so quickly that she only spent a short time in the ICU and was able to go home a few days later with an excellent outcome. The team here in the pediatric ER acted quickly and appropriately to help one of their own. It is a family on the unit and people can feel it when they come to visit. I am so proud of this team always being able to come together and handle things well, even when under emotional pressure. The unit came together again after to help make sure she would have everything she needed for a smooth recovery. The CNA has thanked every single one of them and is so grateful for them being by her side. Excellent work team! Time is Brain!

The Pediatric ER at Baptist South has been open for a little over a year. Shortly after our grand opening, just when we were getting known to the community, the COVID pandemic hit. Despite many challenges, the team at Wolfson at South has thrived. This team has proven time and time again how strong they are not only in their patient care but as a team being there for each other. We have supported each other through tough times and celebrated each other whenever possible. This team has maintained a high 90's satisfaction score consistently since opening. It is just proof to their dedication and excellent patient care as a team. The Press Ganey comments from parents have brought us to tears. Everyone from nursing, CNAs, and RTs have all received comments about how they made someone's worst day better. We share these comments weekly with everyone because everyone should know how grateful people are for their hard work. They have cared for the patients, the parents, and the siblings equally. They have truly made it family-centered care. I am so proud to be a part of this team.

Spring of 2020, the Wolfson South ER got a heads up about four children who were found abandoned in the woods. The children were malnourished, abused, and full of bites and scratches. Vivian and Jessica, the ANMs, were informed of the situation and came in from home to help the staff care for these children since there was no family. The entire team came together and had everything from contacting DCF/CPT to bathing, feeding, and buying new clothes for the children before they were all transferred to downtown inpatient. They also were there to support the children during difficult discussions with the investigators. The teamwork that happened that day was incredible and heartfelt. They were so strong for those children while listening to the awful situation they were in and loved on them until they finally had to let them go. The nurses, RT's, and CNAs all took turns holding and caring for them. It was the first event that truly brought this team together and I am so proud of our team growing from there.

This relatively new team is a collective group of amazing people who came together to open up a brand-new pediatric emergency room inside an adult hospital. Prior to our opening in December of 2019, we all trained inside the incredible WCH ER downtown. We were able to learn so much from that supergroup and carry it on over to our small island here at South. This team overcame typical obstacles that come with opening a brand-new unit. It was even more difficult because it was inside a place with minimal pediatric resources like we were used to having downtown. We thrived as a group and came together to make sure everything was at its absolute best before officially opening our doors two days after first stepping foot in it. Since then, this team has excelled and truly bonded. They have come together during emergencies. They have been flexible with each other to accommodate schedules and families. They have been creative in team problem solving when we have not had exactly what we needed. They have encouraged and cared for each other during difficult times. They have supported each other in new and unfamiliar situations. They have taken care of all the patient and unit needs, whether it was in their job description or not. I have received several compliments from patients, their families, other units of Baptist South, and EMS personnel. They are a team. They are my team. In twelve years as a pediatric nurse, I have seen a lot and been a part of a few different teams. This team has what it takes, and they prove it daily. I am so proud to call them my teammates, my co-workers, and my friends.
