Megan was my favorite nurse for multiple reasons. Her clinical knowledge and skill were only matched by her superior caring, kindness, and ability to connect with her patient on every level. I was her patient for two days in a row due to an infection and sepsis. My twin babies were also in the NICU. Megan advocated for me in every way she could, whether that was calling for a patient fridge for my breastmilk storage, constantly cleaning pump supplies for me, calling about getting a medicine that worked more effectively that what was prescribed, trying to organize video camera viewings of my babies for me while I was unable to see them, or pushing to get the ok for me to finally physically go see them in the NICU. That last one really meant the world to me as I was so heartsick not being able to see my girls for days on end. She never once made me feel in any way a burden, with any requests and would happily assist me, no matter what I needed. She was funny and would brighten my day with our fun and joking conversations. As a nurse who has both been nominated and awarded the DAISY award myself, I know a superiorly skilled and attentive nurse when I see one and my nurse exemplifies what it means to be a DAISY award winner.
