We stepped out of the room for a moment and Emily came in and sat with our Dad. She turned off the lights, held his hand, soothed his brow, and spoke softly to him for at least 30 minutes.
I was given Emily’s name by the CNO I work with at Chino Valley Medical Center. I am the CFO for the facility, so I know when I see quality care being delivered. I wanted to write her and let her know what excellent, caring and compassionate staff she has in the ER.

Our Dad was brought to Emily’s ER from Terracina Post-Acute. He had been recovering from COVID when his oxygen levels dropped, and he was transported to her facility. I received a call from a Critical Care physician telling me that our Dad's lung had collapsed and that COVID had ravaged his lungs. The prognosis was poor and after a discussion with the physician the decision was made to keep him on a BIPAP and enact comfort measures. The doctor told me he would take care of my father as if he were his own and that he would arrange for us to be able to come to the ER and be with him. The physician was kind and caring and delivered a difficult message with compassion and grace.

Emily took over the care of my father and continued the care plan. Once the medication began, our Father became very agitated; he was obviously fighting the begun medication with every fiber of his being. We stepped out of the room for a moment and Emily came in and sat with our Dad. She turned off the lights, held his hand, soothed his brow, and spoke softly to him for at least 30 minutes. She was able to calm him and continue with the comfort measures. I have never witnessed a nurse with such a compassionate nature. She truly personifies the very essence of a nurse; my siblings and I will never forget her kindness.

In the middle of a pandemic and during a difficult time in our lives, the staff delivered care with dignity and compassion, and we want to acknowledge the excellence we experienced. Please let each of them know that they truly made a difference.
