Julie has created a COVID-19 room where staff can have peace and time to reflect. She recently provided foot soaks.
In February I nominated one of my colleagues, Julie Schofield, from J81 Adult Critical Care. With working/managing through the pandemic, I’m aware my nomination may have been very brief and I’d like to add to it here if possible as I’m overwhelmed by the compassion and commitment that Julie continues to display to not only our patients but to her colleagues.
Julie has worked on J81 for over 20 years and her patient-centred care never falters. She actively and in her own time seeks funding to make their stay more comfortable including the purchase of chairs, dementia clocks, and lighting equipment, she regularly fundraises with the patients at the heart of everything she does.
This is the same with the staff. Julie champions patient and staff experience and, just this week in her own time, has dedicated her time to providing health and well-being activities as we enter into what is our COVID-19 recovery phase; she is a highly valued member of staff. Julie has created a COVID-19 room where staff can have peace and time to reflect. She recently provided foot soaks at 10-minute intervals where staff could soak their feet - having sought donations from Weleda products this was performed on break time but meant the world to staff that they were cared for. Staff shared their emotions and there was a real sense of connectedness. Julie always displays Leeds way values and is a role model to staff; she loves her work family as much as her own and this shines through in everything she does. Her loyalty and compassion for her team filter through to our patients and even working in what we call a dungeon as our surge area with no windows/visitors/radios/TVs our patients are still managing to enjoy their stay.
I personally am new to the team and Julie has always stood out to me, for her calm competent approach, her willingness to accept new challenges, and commitment to positive patient and staff experience! What a role model she is!
