Andrea drove the patient’s mother to the hospital 3 hours away, using her own gas and time.
We had a very sick pregnant patient who was requiring transfer to another hospital because of her high-risk pregnancy and serious health concerns. The patient was concerned about making sure her mother would be able to be transported with her and stay with her for support. Andrea called the hospital she would be transferred to in order to verify visitor policy. The patient was informed that her mother would be able to stay with her. However, due to the mode of transportation, the patient’s mother was not going to be able to be transported with her.
The patient’s mother did not have reliable transportation to drive herself. The patient stated, “I won’t go unless my mom will be there with me.” Because of the nature of the patient’s sickness and need to transfer to a higher level of care, Andrea drove the patient’s mother to the hospital 3 hours away, using her own gas and time. Because of Andrea’s selflessness, generosity, and compassion, the patient will now receive the enhanced care she desperately needs with the priceless support of her mother at her bedside.
