Nan was always kind to him and took the extra time to really listen to his questions and concerns.
I first want to say that all the nursing staff and aids were so good to my dad and our family during his 8-day hospital stay. Nan was there for many days of his care from admission to discharge. Nan was always kind to him and took the extra time to really listen to his questions and concerns. Dad strongly wanted to go home many times and Nan had the best way of kindly, but straight forwardly talking with him about what was happening with his care. I can’t begin to express what a help that was to all of us. In many cases all he really needed was information and communication, and Nan always provided both. I knew Nan had earned by dad’s trust the I day I told him, “Nan is checking on it for us” and his response was, “Well if anyone can find out, she will.” Nurses may only interact with a patient for a few moments, but what happens in those moments really does matter!
