The birth of our baby girl went nothing like we had expected. She had complications with breathing due to ingesting meconium. While here, she was tested for meningitis and while that came back negative, it was discovered that she tested positive for CMV. We didn’t even know what CMV was and we were very fearful of what might happen to our precious baby girl. She was moved from the nursery to a one on one care room. Mikayla was the nurse who cared for her that first night in that situation. We were devastated because we had been hoping to have our baby in the room with us and now she needed one on one care.
Mikayla sensed our fears and she went above and beyond not only to care for our baby but also to calm our fears. She gave us her personal cell phone number and offered for us to facetime her and our baby any time throughout the night. She also came and prayed over us because she knew how upset we were. The next morning, she stayed at least an hour after her shift to ensure that our daughter had stabilized and to update the day nurse who was taking over. She waited for us to wake up so she could personally update us on our daughter. Mikayla was an absolute angel and an answer to our prayers. She went above and beyond her job to care for us and keep us as calm as possible. She has the best attitude and made our experience so much more bearable. She is very deserving of any special recognition for not only her efforts but for her servant’s heart. We will forever be grateful for the care our baby girl received here at Providence. All of the nursing staff was amazing and they took great care of our family.
