There were countless heroes and stories of healthcare teams pushing themselves to go above and beyond during COVID.
The MHSE Dialysis Team are modest, quiet, unsung heroes who are recognized for all that they do to provide exceptional care in the most unbearable of times.

March 18, 2021 marked the 3rd anniversary of our dialysis team. The number of patients has increased to 600-800 treatments per month, up from the 300-400 per month when we opened. Many significant events, including the pandemic and winter storm, have not stopped them from providing efficient, safe, and top-quality care. They have a true commitment to serving our patients with the help of their wonderful leaders, Mindy and Patricia.

There were countless heroes and stories of healthcare teams pushing themselves to go above and beyond during COVID. The dialysis team truly stands out because they are hidden. They don’t get accolades, there are no agency or travel nurses who come in to lighten the load, and the load was very heavy. The dialysis team was called on to manage the higher volumes of these very sick patients and they did it willingly, professionally, and exceptionally to make sure the needs of the patients were met. They worked multiple shifts in a row; far more than is encouraged for Nurses. But they knew if they didn’t, the patients would have suffered. They worked shift after shift to provide the life-saving treatments necessary for those having renal failure.

Another example is how they handled the winter storm of February 2021. During the winter storm, MH Pearland lost its water supply, shutting down Pearland dialysis treatments. In addition, the surrounding chronic dialysis clinics lost power and water. The only functioning available dialysis facility in the area was at MH Southeast. The SE dialysis staff not only had to dialyze their own patients but the additional chronic patients coming from the surrounding area.

At the height of the winter storm, the SE dialysis staff dialyzed over 90 patients in 48 hours, saving countless lives from death. The staff worked tirelessly on over 24-hour shifts to perform the life-saving treatments. The patients coming from closed clinics expressed their appreciation for receiving necessary dialysis treatments. The SE dialysis staff responded to the call for extraordinary service during the time of urgent need.

The MHSE Dialysis staff is recognized for selfless dedication and perseverance and for saving lives during the winter storm of February 2021.
