I shall always remember her and be forever grateful!
My wife was rushed to the WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital after collapsing unconscious in our bathroom in November 2019. After diagnostics, it was determined she had a blockage in her small intestine and required surgery immediately or she would die.

The operation was performed early Sunday morning. Afterward, the surgeon explained that her survival was now in the hands of God!

This was emotionally overwhelming for me. My wife and I were very close after 62 years together. She was heavily sedated, and I did not have a chance to talk with her. Two nurses were assigned to her care. One of the nurses was brand new to the CCU and her name was Elizabeth Seeders. I must confess that I was concerned that a new nurse would be caring for my wife.

However, I was surprised by how well the two worked together. It became evident that Elizabeth was very capable and caring. She was also concerned for me because she went out of her way to see if I was okay! By Wednesday my wife’s condition had deteriorated drastically, and she was put on constant dialysis.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth was doing everything possible to see she was comfortable and expressing concern for me! On Friday that week, I spoke with Elizabeth and told her it was time to remove life support. She said okay and I saw tears welling in her eyes. I know that working in the CCU is difficult and it's natural for one to become hardened to deal with it!

However, the genuine show of compassion had a profound effect on me. It was the one thing that enabled me to accept things and deal with my grief. She probably saved my life!

This is the reason I am nominating Elizabeth for a DAISY Award. She is a very compassionate, caring person and a wonderful nurse. I shall always remember her and be forever grateful!

May God bless her and all the nurses in CCU!
