One night in the ED, we had a young man come in with an overdose. Janie went above and beyond with the care that she gave this patient. The patient came in distraught and crying for his mother. After the patient calmed down, Janie was able to get the information that she needed to contact the patient's mother. After his treatment was completed, the patient informed Janie that he wanted to go to detox and rehab. Janie went above and beyond to make phone calls trying to find placement for the patient. She was successful in finding a facility that would take the patient. She also set up transportation for the patient to get to the facility.

While waiting on transportation for the patient, she also went to CVS to buy the patient a pair of glasses because he said he lost his glasses and couldn't see that well. Also, while at CVS she also purchased the patient deodorant and body wash so that he could take a shower at our facility since he hasn't had a real shower in a week and was using rainwater out of a bucket to bathe himself with. Her act of kindness and the overwhelming care she gave to this patient made me realize that she is a true DAISY Nurse. This act of compassion and kindness also inspired another employee to be more empathetic toward patients. I hope to one day be as compassionate and caring of a nurse that Janie is.
