You confirmed that I did not make it with great compassion and allowed me to visit him still.
Dear Bennett,

I am writing to thank you for the compassion and care you gave to my dad while he was a patient there. My dad died from COVID. Earlier that day, I had declined an offer by the attending physician to put a line into his heart. I requested to be with him in the end stages and was approved. However, he died before I could get there.

When I arrived, I was met by you. I took one look and said, “I didn’t make it in time did I?” You confirmed that I did not make it with great compassion and allowed me to visit him still. You went further and made me feel ok about not putting the line in and assured me that he was not alone when he died. This was a great relief not just to me but to our entire family.

I have spent my career in healthcare, and I want to say that I would nominate you as a shining example of compassion and professionalism. I hope that the flowers will not only express our appreciation as a family but will show others that compassion really matters.

My company ordered these pens for front-line workers in the battle against COVID-19. They are a limited edition “courage” pen. I hope that each time you use it, you will be reminded of our gratitude, not just for the care that I believe my dad received, but for the compassion that you showed me.

In closing, I am attaching something I wrote from my daughters about a picture of my mom and dad that he had in his hands in his casket. I’m sure you are one of the angels that made this happen.

Thank you again for all that you do on a daily basis and especially for all that you did for my dad, me, and my family.
