I wanted to email you tonight because my daughter passed along your card to me to express how utterly impressive one of your staff has been. To give you some background, my father has been at your facility for a few months. He was in the ICU unit then was transferred to the 4th floor. I wanted to clarify first that the entire staff has been nothing but amazing and every nurse, tech, OT, PT, RT has been professional and kind. But there is one staff member that our whole family would like to recognize and that is Paul.
From the very first day, Paul not only cared for my father but also would go out of his way to ask me and my sisters if we needed anything. It was not a surprise that when we would all meet downstairs to have lunch and discuss dad that we all brought up Paul in different conversations. We all noticed how incredibly caring he was, how he went above and beyond, how he truly treated my father like he was his own family.
One thing that really stands out to me is we brought in some holy water to wash my dad’s face with. My sister asked Paul if she could leave it at the hospital since we all take turns coming in and he agreed. As soon as I walked in the next day, I was greeted by Paul, asked if I needed anything, asked if I wanted water or a chair. Then he immediately showed me where the holy water was and said he put it in a safe place so that no one would accidentally throw it away. During a time of severe distress and anxiety, we sometimes forget to say please and thank you. We have all been under a tremendous amount of stress and honestly, Paul has helped lessen the burden knowing we have a nurse like him caring for our father.
This morning he fed my father. My father is a very prideful man who was 100% independent before his illness, he doesn’t like anyone to do anything for him, but he has allowed me and my daughter to feed him while he is unable to do so for himself. This morning he tells me that Paul fed him and that he did an excellent job. I can only imagine the care and patience that Paul must have exercised for my father to say what he did.
I really hope Paul receives a DAISY Award because I really can’t think of a more deserving candidate. Again, hats off and a BIG thank you to everyone on the 4th floor! We appreciate you all from the bottom of our hearts for caring and nursing my dad back to health. Thank you for being patient with us with the language barrier, thank you for putting up with us when we were frustrated or overbearing. Thank you for being kind and patient, we can’t thank you enough!
