Everything he did, he explained in ways I could understand, and with a smile.
After my knee replacement surgery where I was out cold, I woke up to hearing my name. My nurse, John Fernandez, asked what I needed. I had a long list of things, but the first that came to mind was that I was cold. John smiled his charming smile and brought me a heated blanket. He then proceeded to put it on me and tuck in the sides, and I was in heaven.

Waiting for a bed, I was in recovery with John an arms length from me for about four hours. He constantly asked me if I were okay or needed anything. He offered advice and recommendations for recuperating. In the meantime, three or four other patients came in for his care but moved to rooms in the units. He was just as good to them. I developed a problem with my abdomen and bladder, it was painful and he was on it. He assessed my situation and took measures to correct with instant relief. Everything he did, he explained in ways I could understand, and with a smile. My meal he ordered for me was a mess to eat, he made me a bib with a towel. While I was stuck lying in a bed, I got to witness the work of all the nurses and assistant. They do so much, so many different jobs, and have so much knowledge. They all work to keep the patients needs a priority and often deal with patients who are not the most pleasant. All of the staff here went above and beyond but John stands out in my mind as above and beyond. His compassion and attentive care made my recovery time much easier.
