We were so very grateful to Michelle for her persistence and interest in helping B.
Michelle is an exceptional woman which in turn leads her to be an exceptional nurse. She began to nurse B at home after intestinal surgery. B had a double PICC line and was on TP nutrition (no eating) with an external drain from his stomach. Michelle was caring and compassionate from the beginning. She took an interest in all that pertained to his situation in the most respectful way. She asked good questions and was thorough in all her ministrations. We found Michelle's communication skills were very good via cell phone but also on a personal level.
We had a very remarkable incident take place. B became very ill at home on a Tuesday with a high temperature and he went to UAMS by ambulance. I told Michelle he had gone to hospital, and she was in touch with me continuously. B had multiple tests done and they could find nothing wrong with him, so he was sent home-still very ill. One of his tests was a culture and the result was sent back on Thursday, confirming that B had a serious staph infection in his blood from the PICC line. Unfortunately, and to our shock, we were not notified of the results timeously, but we had a wonderful nurse who went above and beyond. Michelle kept checking for any lab results on the UAMS site and at about 8 pm that evening contacted me to say B's results showed he had an infection. Within minutes I contacted the doctor and B was on his way to hospital again, where he was pumped full of antibiotics.
We were so very grateful to Michelle for her persistence and interest in helping B. If she hadn't gone the extra mile, the staph infection could have gone into B's organs with unthinkable consequences. Because of this I highly commend Michelle for outstanding service. She has been gentle and efficient, kind and wise and intelligent throughout all the weeks she has cared for B, and we are so very proud of her.
