Celine Barbour is from the OR originally and due to COVID was detailed to the medical-surgical unit. When Celine came up here she was enthusiastic about learning how to work the floor and doing a different kind of patient care. Well, in the last month you would not have known that she has not done much bedside nursing because she has made a huge impact on the patients that she has cared for.
One specific time she had a patient that had been given a poor prognosis and there was a need to have the tough conversation of code status and the plan of care. She sat with the patient for some time, almost forgetting to take time to eat lunch, to sit with the patient to talk and to better yet, listen to the patient. I was the following nurse to take over the patient's care and there was a difference in the patient's demeanor after visiting with Celine, he was more at ease and at peace with the situation.
That same day Celine had another patient that was in a similar situation, upsetting information was given, and she allowed the patient to express himself and she visited with him helping him feel better about the situation. Celine would bring up different topics in conversation to allow the patient to escape reality even if for a short time. Celine may not know how wonderful she is, but she needs to know that it has been recognized not only by the patients but by the staff that she has been working with for this short time.
