Dr. Talley's forward-thinking and open-mindedness make her a treasure in the school.
I have come to know Kris as I have worked with her for over a decade in the School of Nursing at the University of Minnesota. I have found her to consistently “push the envelope” of what is known in the area of aging. Her research informs (and transforms) her teaching and service. She continues to expand the knowledge base of Nursing and has extended, for example, her work of continence to be more inclusive of diverse populations, including gay and bisexual populations. Her research methods also continue to reach out-of-the-box of the “routine.” She has expanded her toolbox of methods to include internet research.

Her experience as a researcher and faculty virtually guarantees that the new, out-of-the-box methods will make their way into the classroom where her students, our future researchers, and practitioners, will employ what they have learned from her. Her forward-thinking and open-mindedness make her a treasure in the school. Dr. Talley has recently taken on the role of Director of the Center for Aging Science and Care Innovation. In this role, she has truly operationalized the word “Innovation” in the title of the Center! She has reached out to members to push the boundaries of the work of the Center and has expanded perspectives. Most recently, she has partnered the Center with a dance artist of the Weisman Art Museum, to explore the inclusion of dance choreography and emotional expression to artistically capture the experience of aging and promote the quality of life of senior communities, families, and providers. In closing, it is such “out-of-the-box thinking” that puts our School on the leading edge of change in health care and brightens the health and future for us all!
