Although she had to wear a mask and keep as socially distanced as possible her smile shone through.
At the present time when lockdown is in force with everyone wearing masks and social distancing having a heart attack and being admitted to the cardiac care unit of Torbay Hospital might be the worst thing that you might imagine. From the outset, this was an experience that opened my eyes to what wonderful NHS staff we have locally. They were fantastic especially the nurses and one more than any other namely Chris Donnelly. Although she had to wear a mask and keep as socially distanced as possible her smile shone through. Whenever you were down her care and compassion helped to raise your spirits. If you were worried in the night she would offer you tea and chat about interests outside of the hospital and always find things to laugh at. She wasn’t like this to just me but everyone in the ward. Although very professional and efficient she always seemed to find time for each and every one of us. She put us at our ease and made all our concerns easier to bear. It wasn’t only the patients she had this rapport with but all the doctors, nurses, and ancillaries staff. She was like everyone’s best friend. There were student nurses on the ward and I’m sure the way Chris dealt with everyone she came into contact with would be a great example for them to follow. There are many fantastic staff in this unit so to shine out amongst them is exceptional. Chris did and it was indeed a privilege to meet her and I’m sure we would all count her as our friend.
