She is thoughtful and kind in all her interactions with patients and families.
Janaye Decker started at Mercy in 2015 as a new grad nurse. In the beginning, she was very unsure of herself and asked many questions. She has always been very motivated to provide excellent patient care and was eager to learn. Over the last several years her knowledge and confidence have grown to make her a shining star in ICU. She is a calming presence in the unit. Although she may be stressed due to acuity or patient load, she never lets the patients see this. She is thoughtful and kind in all her interactions with patients and families. She is always respectful to her coworkers and providers and her team work is outstanding.
Janaye works as a charge nurse and a preceptor and has become a resource to other nurses. She has taken a new nurse under her wing and helped shape her professionally. Janaye is also very spiritual and often talks about finding peace within herself. She has started a Facebook page and invited several of her coworkers to join which has helped with their resiliency over the stress of the last year in ICU.
Finally, Janaye is one of the most recognized nurses in the unit. She is recognized almost every shift that she works by patients for spending time with them, listening to their concerns, and advocating for them. She takes the time to educate and make sure the patient has everything they need. She is most inspiring during end-of-life situations. As she has dealt with COVID-19 patients over the last year, she had some difficult situations with death. Although incredibly emotional for her, I wouldn’t want any other nurse by my loved one’s side as they pass on. She is amazingly compassionate and kind and she makes the experience as peaceful as possible.
