Stephanie amazes me as she has already retired from one profession and started a new one as the drive to continually learn and give of herself is deep inside her.
Stephanie started living the mission of giving even long before she was a nurse. She served her country proudly in the Air Force for over 20 years. Even after retiring from the military, she knew her service to people and the community was not done. She branched out into what better profession to give of oneself than nursing. She obtained her RN degree through Metro and then started as a new nurse on the 4th floor at Mercy in 2015.

Even as a new nurse and a quick learner, she continually pushed herself to do better, so she started back to school to obtain her BSN through UNMC even while holding down a family and a full-time job. In the time that she has been with us, she has obtained and maintained her PALS and ACLS. Once eligible, she furthered her learning and became an Orthopedic Certified Nurse (ONC) and joined the NAON-National Association of Orthopedic Nurses, and will attend their National Congress this year. She has also attended classes and has served as a Preceptor and Mentor to new hires as well as a DEN instructor for nursing students. She amazes me as she has already retired from one profession and started a new one as the drive to continually learn and give of herself is deep inside her. She has a love for orthopedics and has served as a great teacher and resource with her expertise to her co-workers in this area. She has also played a big part in obtaining our Advanced Orthopedic Certification in Total Hip & Knee all three times. We are very proud of her and all that she has brought to our unit. Her upbeat personality and willingness to help in all situations is just a bonus with her.
