I am nominating Jamie for showing extreme compassion to a surgical patient. No patient ever plans on having emergency surgery, let alone hundreds of miles away from home. I witnessed Jamie keep this surgical patient calm and collected during a very frightening time in his life. The patient arrived in the ED for abdominal pain and ended up being told he needed to have emergency surgery. The patient was in the area for work and lived several states away. The patient decided he would risk the drive home to have surgery closer to his family. Jamie explained to the patient how important it was he not take that risk and have the surgery done that day. I saw Jamie hold this patient's hand, call his family and pray with him. The patient trusted Jamie and knew he was going to receive excellent care while at our facility. Watching Jamie's interactions with this patient made me proud to be able to work alongside her. Jamie told the patient that God put the two of them together that day and they were going to get through the surgery together. This is what an OSF nurse looks like to me.
