Marianne very likely prevented a skin injury for this patient.
Marianne is new to the Charge Nurse role and has shown herself to be a champion for patient safety. Along with her new role came participation in two unit-based quality projects: reduction of hospital-acquired pressure injuries and catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Marianne's participation in these projects goes above and beyond and positively impacts the patient care on her unit every single day.
One recent example that I would like to highlight is when Marianne noticed that one of the patients, a nonverbal paraplegic, was not receiving adequate pressure injury prevention measures. The situation was further worsened by the fact that this patient was a COVID-risk and behind closed doors. Marianne ordered him an overlay mattress and applied Prevalon boots to protect his heels. She then made sure to educate the staff taking care of the patient on the importance of these measures. Marianne very likely prevented a skin injury for this patient.
