His condition continued to get better, and we will forever credit Abby with being the angel who advocated for him and started his turnaround.
I (the patient's mother) want to call out the heroic actions of a nurse for special recognition for her love and care for our son and our family as he recovered from MIS-C. Abby was his caregiver when my son had been unresponsive all day. As she came on shift, he spiked a fever and showed signs of distress. Abby was calm and professional, assuring me that things were going to be ok. She seemed to sense that something was not right and let me know she'd paged the hospitalist.
Once the doctor arrived, it was encouraging to see her advocate for her patient, explaining that he'd been this way two days and that she wondered about the cause of his lethargic and unresponsive state. It was neat to observe the nurse and doctor together at the computer reviewing labs and his chart. They were definitely a team, working together for our son.
Abby recognized that something in his case was being missed or wasn't adding up. Together Abby and the doctor identified issues to be addressed. Something about that young lady was reassuring from the moment she walked into the room. The next morning our son greeted me with his eyes open and glasses on. His condition continued to get better, and we will forever credit Abby for being the angel who advocated for him and started his turnaround. We are particularly thankful for your very amazing nurse, Abby.
