We had our stories and laughed, but Nanci truly "listened"!
In these extraordinary times, extraordinary efforts and people are not only needed but need to be celebrated. I have many examples already at my anaplastic cancer treatment (radiology and chemo) experience here at Mayo Phoenix, but yesterday I met Nanci Clarkson, RN, Chemotherapy Infusion Unit.

From the start of my treatment, it was clear that Nanci was much like previous RNs in the unit; well-trained, personable, caring, and a consummate professional working very hard to make me comfortable and confident in all that this treatment entails. Scary stuff! We had our stories and laughed, but Nanci truly "listened"! And then in an extraordinary, special way went over and above the call of duty (in my mind) to address and respond to my personal needs. Her “take charge” attitude got things done for me. Nanci was listening as I was trying to suddenly plan for a surgical procedure tomorrow morning but need a Covid swab as soon as possible for this to happen. Knowing the testing tents would be closed, Nanci jumped to arrange for a person to drive me in a cart to the testing (front of the line), get swabbed, and then back to finish all my chemo infusion. I was so relieved and impressed. This was an incredible display of patient care, for above what I have ever experienced. She is very special and a tremendous asset to Mayo Clinic. Thank you!
