I came to the hospital with severe abdominal and lower back pain. It turned out to be a kidney stone along with severe dehydration, or so we thought. It turns out, after a CT Scan, that I have cancer in my kidney. This was a crushing and unexpected blow. Once I was taken to the room, I was taken care of by everyone with absolute kindness, love, and professionalism. Dave was more than a nurse in so many ways. Yes, he is an outstanding and smart nurse, but he gave me his ear when I needed someone to talk to. He went far and above keeping me informed on my devastating news by providing me materials to read that explained things in detail. Thus there are no surprises. I was allowed to share pics of my family and clips of my son playing sax. During this time, when only one visitor is allowed, having Dave there was like having a family member there with me. WellSpan York Hospital is so lucky to have Dave working for him, and if our paths never cross again, I’m so glad to be able to nominate him as an extraordinary nurse. I am sure he is this way to everyone he meets. What a blessing he is to me.
