Lori took the time to go to her bedside and make a hand mold for her children.
Countless staff members have shared over the years how they feel empowered and ready for anything when Lori is around. Women's Services has had several unique situations over the last year which has caused us all to think outside of the box. Lori is the first to think of any barriers, needs, educational gaps, and staff concerns. She is often here very early in the morning, very late at night, and has been known to pop in on the weekends. Her heart is huge for the safety and concern of our patients, and she will do whatever it takes to ensure our patients have the best possible outcome.

Recently, we had a pregnant mother who was found to be COVID+ and in need of critical care treatment eventually delivering beautiful baby boy twins. Once it was found that the mother would not make it through, Lori took the time to go to her bedside and make a hand mold for her children. In addition, she met with the Grandmother and the ICU staff to put together a Baby Shower for the family of this patient. The staff donated immensely and because of Lori and her heart, we will be able to provide this grandmother a little bit of hope/ease as she navigates raising two premature newborns and their siblings. In addition, she went up nearly every day to check on the ICU staff, the patient, and would pop over to the NICU to ensure the baby’s Grandmother was doing okay.

If that isn’t enough, almost immediately following this, a staff member at The Woodlands lost their loved ones and ended up passing in the same room together in ICU, Lori was found again making a hand mold after hours to provide the family. Lori has never seen a patient as just a number. She cares, she extends, and she is selfless. I have been blessed to work beside and under Lori over the last six years and there have been lots of good days and lots of really hard ones. But she has always been a constant, she truly cares about everyone, our patients, our staff, and this hospital. When I think of a DAISY Nurse Leader, Lori is the first person that comes to mind.
