She wheeled him out to the elevator landing where he could see the beautiful blue sky with the Atlanta Skyline in the background.
I would like to nominate Laura, our outstanding ICU nurse, as a DAISY Award recipient. From the first day she was assigned to A, we knew that she was special. She is very capable and knowledgeable when taking care of A, but she also treats him with respect and kindness. She is constantly watching his monitors as well as watching him physically. I love the way she speaks to him in such a sweet and personable way. Laura lets him know what's happening and what will be happening with a positive attitude about it all.

Laura says she's just doing her job, but she goes way beyond what her job entails. I wish all nurses were able to just do their job in this manner! We've good, decent nurses, but Laura has been outstanding.

Laura, through much effort and coordination, with PT and RT, was able to get A into a special wheelchair last week. She wheeled him out to the elevator landing where he could see the beautiful blue sky with the Atlanta Skyline in the background. He then sat in the chair for another half hour without complaints.

I took pictures of this momentous occasion and forwarded them to my sister and A's parents. Of course, this was such a positive move forward, their first reaction was asking if Laura could continue taking care of him. She did so much in such a short amount of time, and A has been on board with whatever she thought best. This was the first time he had been in a wheelchair since his surgery.

Laura goes about her job, taking care of A with a sunny and positive attitude. We felt less stressed when she was there because we felt that he was in such good hands. We feel that she genuinely cares about her patients as individuals and gives them the very best care she was to offer.

Because of this, I would like to nominate Laura for the prestigious DAISY Award. She absolutely deserves that recognition.
