The thing that I will always remember and deeply appreciate, was how Laurette tried to put me at ease by thoroughly explaining every aspect of my child’s care from medication to vitals to equipment.
Everyone on the unit was fabulous but Laurette really stands out in my mind. I am the mother of 16-year-old admitted for transplant rejection and heart failure. To say that I was sick with worry would be an understatement. Laurette was so cheerful and upbeat. She tried to engage us in conversations non-healthcare related, to get our minds off the current situation. When my kid was being a picky eater, she worked hard to get his diet advanced and helped him pick items from the menu that he would eat. The thing that I will always remember and deeply appreciate, was how Laurette tried to put me at ease by thoroughly explaining every aspect of my child’s care from medication to vitals to equipment. One day she told us all about my child’s Swan Ganz catheter. By coincidence, that night doctors came in at 1 am to check the placement and get a “wedge”. I didn’t panic at all because I understood what they were doing thanks to Laurette!
