N from then looked forward to seeing Katie and we all bonded and formed a close relationship.
Our daughter N has had 3 cancer diagnoses – each time cared for by doctors and nurses. Katie was assigned as N’s nurse when N was 8. As parents, we were very scared although meeting Katie on our first visit gave us such reassurance with her gentle confidence and care. N from then looked forward to seeing Katie and we all bonded and formed a close relationship. What N loved about Katie was her sense of humor, but N also trusted Katie which helped us guide N through procedures and treatments. We had many ups and downs which Katie went throughout with us. N loved chatting with Katie about musicals, TV programs, clothes, crafts, and would easily bring a smile to N’s face even in the most difficult of times. Katie would advocate for N, passing on information to doctors about N’s and our concerns. Working hard also in the background to get N’s worries and needs addressed as best she could. Over the 6 years we have known her it has really helped to have Katie as constant support and friend. In N’s, final days Katie was there which was very special for us. We will be forever grateful for her. Thank you, Katie.
