Upon learning of the delay and the possibility of waiting even longer, Ms. Velasco offered to take her classmate to the hospital.
Ms. Velasco demonstrated true nursing spirit for her fellow nursing student! She demonstrated compassion and advocacy for one of her classmates during a school activity. During a simulation activity, her classmate suddenly became very ill. This classmate had been waiting for a family member to pick them up, only to find the family member was delayed due to a traffic accident on the highway. As soon as Ms. Velasco saw her classmate in tears and in pain, she sat down, spoke with her, and provided comfort. She quickly noted her classmate needed to be medically tended to as soon as possible and asked where her family member was. Upon learning of the delay and the possibility of waiting even longer, Ms. Velasco offered to take her classmate to the hospital. Ms. Velasco quickly brought her vehicle to the front of the building, assisted her classmate into the vehicle, and drove her to the hospital. Her classmate responded positively to Ms. Velasco's behavior, suggestions, and actions, demonstrating Ms. Velasco's outstanding compassion and advocacy for a patient/classmate in need.
