Edyta Cespedes was our main nurse during day time session while my wife, daughter, and I stayed in UNC Rex Women’s Center Postpartum for two days. My wife gave birth to our daughter at we didn’t get to the Postpartum room until a few hours later. After some medical checks and baby feeding, we were introduced to our daytime nurses. Edyta greeted us and reminded us to order some breakfast as she knew we had a long night and both Mom and Dad needed extra energy to welcome a brand new day. We did so and felt much better with our stomachs full!!! Then, Edyta with other supportive groups helped us check mom’s bleeding condition, baby and temperature and so much more.

Edyta was special because she was extremely patient to show us all the details of nursing Baby. She showed us tricks of how to comfort Baby, how to “fully” clean Baby’s diaper and poop, how to identify Baby’s needs. We were a bit uncomfortable swaddling the baby so Edyta showed us step by step three times to make sure we were fully comfortable to do the swaddle job. Moreover, Edyta asked about our culture and baby-caring facts in our family. We chatted about stories flowing in the family and she supported some traditions in our family with some scientific facts and provided more resources for us to look up in case we want to learn, compare, and make a decision.

Overall, Edyta exceeded our expectations of a nurse and she made our experience at UNC Rex unforgettable/joyful during this difficult time! Lastly, I thank all the healthcare providers and wish them health and happiness in their daily life. They are the true heroes!
