Shauna turned a painful time for us into a beautiful experience that we now share with family and friends.
Our father was admitted to ICCU when he started to desaturate on home O2. It took us a day to convince him to be admitted because his biggest fear was being and eventually dying alone in a hospital. Our family will be eternally grateful for Shauna helping us make sure this was not my dad's experience. Arrangements were made so that our father could connect with his children and even his father through Zoom. The meeting through Zoom lifted my father's spirit which gave him great peace and comfort. Our father excitedly shared how much he loved his night nurse, Shauna Bendix, who he quickly labeled as "the best nurse ever"! He shared how she spent time talking to him and even gave him a back massage.
As expected, my dad's condition continued to decline and we were faced with the decision to focus on comfort versus aggressive measures. Shauna demonstrated compassion to my dad and my entire family. Shauna turned a painful time for us into a beautiful experience that we now share with family and friends. Our entire family will be eternally grateful to the ICCU staff at NHUVA PWMC but most of all to Shauna whom we now consider being part of our family. She exemplifies the healing power of a nurse deserving of DAISY recognition.
