Carolyn was kind, compassionate, and professional. She was competent and controlled during a stressful situation when my daughter needed dialysis.
My 9-year-old daughter spent 8 days in the PICU after we arrived at the HMH emergency room. To our devastation, she was diagnosed with leukemia. Nothing in the world can prepare you for this situation. She was given chemotherapy immediately and suffered critical side effects. She was brought to the PICU where we spent the last 8 days. I don’t have the emotional strength to recount everything my daughter went through this last week. I do find it extremely important to point out the extraordinary care we received from the PICU team. In these moments where you are the most vulnerable you have ever been, the care and concern you get from the staff and physicians are crucial. I am a hospital administrator in a different NJ healthcare system, so I can easily recognize team members who go above and beyond. The entire PICU nursing team was great, and I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge a select few while we wait to be transferred to the pediatric oncology floor. Carolyn is the first RN I want to acknowledge. She was kind, compassionate, and professional. She was my daughter's nurse on one of the hardest days/nights here in the PICU. She was competent and controlled during a stressful situation when my daughter needed dialysis. She was so attentive to our needs and was on top of all the changes and challenges we experienced with my daughter's health. I want to say thank you from my heart, for helping us get through the hardest week of my life. Our journey is far from over, and the road ahead is long with other challenges, but I will not forget the compassion we received from Carolyn in the PICU. You can have the greatest doctors, the newest technology, in the nicest hospital in the world, but it's the staff that makes all the difference. Thank you.
