Melissa always goes above and beyond, and fellow coworkers can count on her to jump in and help at any time.
Melissa West, R.N., a clinical nurse in the NICU, is the DAISY Award recipient. She was nominated for this honor by two employees who wrote: “It’s such a pleasure working with Melissa. She really deserves to be recognized for her dedication to our NICU patients. During a particular shift as a STORK nurse, she attended a high-risk delivery of an extremely sick baby. One of the mother’s wishes was to have him blessed by a priest. With it being a weekend, spiritual care wasn’t on campus. Melissa called around until she was able to find someone to arrive prior to delivery to bless the mom and baby – it meant the world to them.” “This particular shift demonstrates the compassionate care she provides to her patients and families. Melissa always goes above and beyond, and fellow coworkers can count on her to jump in and help at any time. I’ve watched Melissa grow from a new grad to the experienced nurse she is today and I couldn’t be more proud. We are so lucky to have her on our unit.” Melissa’s manager added: “Melissa has been a NICU nurse for over five years. She is skilled and known for being a team player who effectively communicates with all members of this multidisciplinary group. She’s an amazing resource to the unit, STORK team and NeoMET. Melissa is flexible, committed, and can multitask in a highly complex and busy environment. One thing we admire most is her passion and advocacy for patients and families – she’s always ensuring the highest quality of care. Melissa is well respected by her peers and loved by everyone she cares for. She is truly an asset to the NICU and our organization. We are grateful to have her on our team."
