Dad decided to go into hospice and Joan was the biggest comfort for me as well.
My Dad was on 9S for a little over 2 weeks. Joan cared for him the last 4 days and oversaw his transition to hospice. When I first met Joan I could tell she didn't just care for dad, she talked to him as she knew all about our family, his love/concern for my mom who had an upcoming lumpectomy scheduled, and his love of music, and the Cubs. Dad would tell me about her during our daily calls. Joan and Dad would banter every time she entered the room. It gave our family comfort as we could not be there with him throughout the days.

Dad decided to go into hospice and Joan was the biggest comfort for me as well. We had heart-to-heart talks about his courage and condition and what to expect. I could tell she cared for me; she was a great comfort to me through the entire process. On the morning of the transfer, Joan knew that all Dad wanted was time with my mom before he transferred, and she made sure that happened. Joan gave us those few hours where we could get my mom in to see him before he was medicated, which was priceless for them both. Married 58 years, together 60, she was his everything. Joan let Dad make the call on when he was ready to go all the while continuing to watch him with such care and compassion. Joan assisted in his transfer, which gave my family comfort knowing that he was with someone who cared for him so and that he cared for, too. Joan will never be forgotten for her love and compassion during one of the hardest few days of our lives. Dad was beyond lucky to have her as his nurse.
